BLUEJEANS
A UI/UX project to enhance the UCaaS app and it's user experience.
THE DESIGN OPPORTUNITY
One of the Bluejeans products- "UCaaS" application required Design Audit, UI and UX enhancement to offer better and engaging user experience. The existing design was about to launch and the stakeholders wanted some design updates into the modules.
UCaaS application is a product of Bluejeans which is about to launch soon. The design opportunity in this project was the Design audit to carefully spot all the gaps in design and propose apt solutions for the same. Also, considering the existing Design System.
HIGH LEVEL TIMELINE
4 months to work on Design QA and designing, redesigning some of the modules.
MAKE OF THE TEAM
I was working on this project with a Senior designer.
KEY GOAL
To enhance the UI/UX of the existing modules and handoff the designs to dev team in the defined timeframe.
MY ROLE
I was working under the Senior Designer to understand the UCaaS App and contribute in it’s value addition. I performed DQA on Android App and collaborated with the dev team to improve the app accordingly.
In visual design, I followed the existing design system and created UI and screen flows for “Calling” and “Messaging” modules.
I was working as a UX designer in this project, a Senior designer was there to help me whenever required. My day used to start with the meeting with Senior Designer and afterwards, I used to brainstorm on the requirement and research as well. Then, I was connecting back with her to discuss the ideas that I had. Eventually, I mainly, was working on the designs, wireframes and at the end of the day, I used to prepare the designs for discussion with Sr. designer and Engineering team. We had daily syncup with engg. team to demonstrate the designs and get feedback on it's implementation as well.

THE PROCESS FOLLOWED
I started with the analysis of the existing product and it's behaviour. Then I started on the DQA (Design Quality Assurance) working closely with the dev team to understand their pain points as well as to walk them through our DQA comments. Regarding the module UI design, I brainstormed on the requirement, following with the discussion with engineering team and Sr. Designer. Started on the wireframes and designs to get feedback from the design team and modified the designs accordingly.
The PM/Sr. Designer provided me with the user pain points and problem statements. In most of the cases, we were scheduling call with the design team to understand it better. Once getting clarity with the requirement, I was starting on my research and analysis following with the design explorations. I used to get it discussed with the design team, dev team and implementing their feedbacks accordingly.

Finding Design Inconsistencies Across devices
After performing DQA for Android, we later on started with spotting design inconsistencies for UCaaS app across different devices. As a process, we further created style guide regarding the correct approach for some of the UI components
DQA on UCaaS App (Android)
I taken the lead on UCaaS DQA for Android device. We started with analyzing the UCaaS application and collaborating with fellow designers, dev team. Afterwards, collating all the DQA comments given by the design team so far and checking what all comments have been implemented by dev team yet. Then we created separate Jira Tickets for open comments and in a way helped the developers with clarity on DQA points across the application.

Enhancement in UI
We redesigned the older interface to make it decluttered and restructured the information and made micro level changes which made a macro level change in the new interface. We focused on the products making their details more easier to understand.

LESSONS LEARNED
The better way to perform DQA as well as to finding gaps in the existing application and information/screen flows.
While working on this project, I understood the nuances of DQA and how to implement it properly. I got a deeper level of knowledge on how dev team works. My eyes got trained on how to spot a design error in real quick. Also, I got the better understanding on how to work as a designer leaving minimum errors.
